Six Degrees of Separation or Peanut Allergies on the Today Show

Allergies have been in the news a lot, lately, and this week is no exception.  But this time, the person interviewed is my friend’s, husband’s cousin.  Yep, we’re practically kin.
Another good friend of mine has a daughter with a severe peanut allergy, which for them means an entire lifestyle of vigilance that we simply don’t have over here.  Our allergies are all the hay-fever kind, which means that this time of the year is a sniffling, snuffling joy for us.  But while we’re sniffling, there’s a good chance we’re snacking on trail mix.
For those of you who know or love someone with a severe allergy like this, there may be hope.  A new trial, reported on the Today show has promising results…and features my friend’s husband’s cousin.  How cool is that?

Why Do All The Cool Kids Have Allergies or Asthma?

Apparently, moms, it’s because we’re keeping our homes too clean.  Or at least you are.  My son has asthma, but that’s definitely not the reason.

Don’t know what I’m talking about?  Go read this.

So, to be clear, I’m all for letting kids get dirty.  Come on, I have three boys.  We have a lot of dirt around here.

But, ummm, worms in the intestines?  Gross.  Seriously?  Gross!

And how about this:

“Dr Elliott pointed out that children who grow up on farms…are much less likely to develop allergies and autoimmune diseases.”

I knew those farm kids had it going on.

Maybe my dirt-loving brother should’ve been a farm kid.  When we were little, he made up this sing-song rhyme:

God made the earth,

Dirt don’t hurt,

Put it in your mouth,

And let it work.

Then again, maybe he should’ve been a doctor.

Cop a little feel. Come on, you can do it!

Okay, well, I know it was already Wordless Wednesday, but now I have a few words for you.

That’s right, ladies, get busy. October is breast cancer awareness month, and as you may recall from a previous Wordless Wednesday, a few of my girlfriends and I walked with TONS of others to raise money for the fight.

However, as I was perusing my fellow bloggers today, I saw over at coffeeyogurt that our friend at Monkeys & Princesses is trying to raise even more. It’s a contest! You can win! Seriously, she’s having a contest this month and donating all of her ad revenue for October to breast cancer research. The more visits she gets, the more money she donates. So go see her and help all our “girls” have a fighting chance.
