I love to vote

While I don’t want to get all nationalistic on you, I must say that I think there’s something awfully cool about going to the polls.  As I looked around this morning, there were people half my age, and twice my age, and we were all there to have our say.  I love that.  There were women, people of color, and people who don’t own property–there was a time when we didn’t get a vote and now we all do.  I love that, too.

Every time I enter the building where I cast my vote, I’m thankful.  I’m thankful to live in a country where we can speak our mind about the problems in our government.  I’m thankful we can vote for the candidates we think will best represent our views.  I’m extremely grateful that men and women fight to give us the many freedoms we enjoy – the freedom to worship as we wish, the freedom to dissent lawfully, the freedom to speak our mind, and yes, the freedom to elect our leaders.

How about you?  Did you vote today?

I’m not here, but I’m there…

As crazy weeks go, this one is right up there.  And I think the rest of the month will be worse, but for all good reasons.  I love being involved with my kids’ schools, I love, love, love coaching basketball, I love writing, editing, and editing again, I love that new appliances, counters, and carpet (long overdue carpet, my friends) are on their way, I love being with friends, working on projects, and reading good books.  But all of those things I love are eating away at my time this week.

So today, a little blog cheat.  I’m not here, but I’ve been busy elsewhere this week.  Click on over to read what I think is a great recipe for friendship, marriage and life, my ideas for roasted pumpkin seeds, or my paper mâché ruminations.
