Carving Jack O’Lanterns with Kids

We started with 3 pumpkins.

Each boy chose a design from one of our template books.
We scooped out the gunk.

We saved the seeds for roasting. 3 batches this year: salt only, spicy, and sweet.

The boys each carved their own design. This was the first year everyone was able to carve relatively unassisted, which left me pumpkin-less. I didn’t expect to miss carving, but I did. So next year we’ll have to pick 4 or 5, so I can carve one, too.

They did a fantastic job!

The jack-o-lanterns looked quite scary in the dark (the skull and ghost did, anyway.)

But they weren’t the scariest things around here…
We had a ghost,

a mad scientist,

and a very pretty princess!

What a crew!

  1. Heh! Very fun. Can you believe this was my first year of carving a pumpkin myself, ever, in my life? It's addicting. So yes, please get yourself a pumpkin next year.

    Your boys look great!

  2. Excellent pumpkins! Much more creative than we got this year… I just was not feeling like putting in the effort. Well done!
