Remembering

Returned to the south,
the place of my childhood.
Couldn’t stop staring.

New roads, new stores, new
faces, but so much the same.
Sea grass, dunes, warm water.

I remembered this,
and then I remember that.
Some things stay with you.

I thought they were gone,
those stories and memories.
But I found them, there.

  1. Beautiful poem. I will be returning to my childhood home soon but I will find NOTHING has changed. Which is comforting on the one hand .. but frustrating when you need something at 10pm and nothing is open. I do get used to my 24/hr Wallgreens here in the big city.
